PETS EMERGENCY KITS

PETS EMERGENCY KITS

We have two dogs that are part of our family unit. If we leave they leave with us. Not having them with us during an emergency is not an option which is why we prepare kits for then too. It will make taking care of them during an uncertain time much easier if you have the items they need already.

Listed are some items that you may need to properly attend to their needs and safety.

Pets Emergency Kits

- Make sure that cats and dogs are wearing collars and identification tags that are up to date

- Put your cellphone number on your pet's tag (or a relative/friend's number in case you need to evacuate)

- Find a safe place to stay ahead of time

- Never assume you will be allowed to bring your pet to an emergency shelter — check with local officials in advance to find out about pet-friendly shelters

- Consider a kennel or veterinarian's office or contact hotels and motels

- Bring your pet with you if you evacuate

- Stock enough food and water and treats for each pet for at least five days

- Don't forget to bring your pet's medications and a sturdy leash or carrier

- Also bring their favorite toy

Remember pets get frightened and stressed too during an emergency and exhibit behaviors that may not be normal. The last thing you want is your animal lost or hurt during a disaster.
